The mega event of millennials- Sunburn is stepping it its 11th edition and this time the buoyant festival was scheduled to take place in Pune from December 28 to 31.
But to much disappointment of Punekars, the event is now seemed to be on the verge of cancellation. Apparently, the citizens and the elected representatives opposed saying that entertainment festival should not be held in holy places such as Alandi and Dehu.
Now in an attempt to cancel the show, BJP corporator Vasant Borate wrote a letter to the Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority’s (PCNTDA) chief executive officer Satishkumar Khadke demanding that, no permission should be given for the Sunburn festival 2017.
BJP corporator from panel number 2-D (Bhosari) Vasant Borate said,
This Sunburn festival does nothing but misguide our young generation. It is a western attack on our culture and we will not tolerate it. Pimpri-Chinchwad is the land of great saints like Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram, so its purity should be honoured. Some senior residents from my area came to met me yesterday and gave me a detailed information about this Sunburn festival to be organised in Kesanand for four days in December and pleaded to cancel the event from our area.
Therefore, I met the PCNTDA chief executive officer Satishkumar Khadke at his office and handed over a letter and requested him to not allow this Sunburn festival in Pimpri-Chinchwad. If Khadke will not cancel this festival, we will go to the state government and put forth our demand.
The resident of Moshi, Ramchandra More said,
Alandi and Dehu are holy places for us, so this western dance and music programmes should not be allowed near such holy places. We have strong beliefs on the teaching of our saints and organising such western dance music shows near these holly places is nothing but hurting our religious sentiments.
PCNTDA chief executive officer Satishkumar Khadke said,
We received a letter from corporator Vasant Borate. We will discuss the matter with our senior authorities and then take a final decision on weather to give permission for the Sunburn festival.
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) mayor Nitin Kalje said,
No one has personally approached me seeking cancellation of the Sunburn festival. But, if people are against this festival, we will respect them and not allow the festival in Pimpri-Chinchwad area.
We cannot foretell the decision right now but can hope for a justified verdict that turns out in the favour of righteous.
