Out of many things, one thing that makes Pune standout in its rich culture and heritage is unequivocally- Forts! And to glorify its importance even more, the district administration has now decided to host Sinhagad Mahotsav.
The objective of the fort is to exhibit various historical aspects related to the fort. To take you back in the history, the archaeological department will arrange an exhibition that will consist of old letters and documents related to the wars; the equipment that was used in that era.
Now to make this plan executable, the cultural affairs department has been asked to submit a proposal to the Pune district administration. As of now, only Rajgad Fort hosts such a festivals and events.
To discuss on this, a meeting was held between the officials of the state cultural affairs, Pune district collector, state archaeological department, local MLAs and Zilla Parishad officials as per the directives of the state government.
Saurabh Rao, district collector told Mumbai Mirror,
The Sinhgad festival will sensitise people about the history. As of now, only Raigad Fort has such kind of festival. This will be another addition to the cultural assets of Pune. This festival will provide platform for showcasing state specific cultural activities and also to the emerging artists.
Bharat Langhi, the programme officer of cultural affairs department, said,
The history of many generals and soldiers of Chhatrapati Shivaji is attached to this fort. There are few names which have never been a part of the history books. The festival will provide detailed information to the history lovers.
Talking about this Mahotsav, noted Pune-based historian Mandar Lawate said,
It will help remember those who helped Shivaji to build Swarajya. Tanaji Malusare, Navji Balkawade, Shelar Mama and others’ contribution is unforgettable. History lovers would know more about them.
