As Ganesh Utsav is round the corner, we see everyone busy making preparations for the event. Where everyone is in the bid to make their mandap look beautiful; there exist people who have given a thought to the civic issues first and then the decoration.
A brilliant strategy to tackle traffic issues has been worked out by the managers of Hatti Ganpati, Sadashiv Peth. You’ll see that the temporary constructed mandap will be elevated high, which will enable you to pass through that lane from beneath the setup, much like a tunnel.
Popular art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai and his team are managing the work of this Rajeshahi Mahal.
Talking about this, Sham Mankar, president of Hatti Ganpati Mandal said,
The entire mandap has been constructed like an RCC building with iron pillar supporting the structure from beneath. The 86-foot-tall structure is constructed 10.5 feet from the ground. Before the mandap was planned, the plans were submitted to the traffic police department along with conducting trial runs. The structure can bear 30-40 tonnes at a go.
Though the strategy might sound brilliant and easy to work on, but to implement it was actually a very difficult task. Regulating the traffic and keeping the pedestrians safe are the main priorities they are working on.
The mandal has been taking special efforts to celebrate 125 years of the festival. Sharing his experience of this occasion Mankar further added,
Every year, we make 40x27 foot pandal for the dekhawa statues. After installing the pandal, a single lane stays open for the traffic. Since we wanted to do something grand this year, we decided to go with the Mahal, which was going to take huge space. The pandal was thus raised, so as to not block the traffic.
Appreciating the efforts led by their team, Assistant Police Inspector of Vishrambaug Traffic Police Division, SD Patil said,
We have got their proposal about the mandap's structure. It is good and we are working over safety-related points.
