Taking into account the increase of traffic on the streets of Pune, PMC has proposed a flyover and pedestrian subway at the busy Karve Statue Chowk in Kothrud.
This area being the vital junction of the city, the commuters face a lot of problems and hence the Standing Committee of Pune Municipal Corporation has proposed this project in the current year's budget, setting aside Rs 3 crore for initial work.
The Square will be an intersection of three roads — one from Dashabhuja Ganapati Mandir chowk and two from Karvenagar-Dahanukar Colony and DP Road.
The flyover has been proposed from Sutar bus stop towards the Mrutyunjayeshwar temple on Karve Road. It will provide vehicles from Warje, Malwadi, Karvenagar and Dahanukar Colony direct access to the Dashabhuja Ganapati Mandir Road.
To make pedestrians cross the junction easily, a subway is also expected to come up in the chowk, with outlets at three roads.
