In Manipuri, ‘Ningol’ means daughter and ‘Chakouba’ means invitation for a lunch in the mother’s house. ‘Ningol Chakouba’ is a special day for the married daughters in Manipur, and ningol’s kids are the happiest one at the idea of wearing new cloths and meeting bobok (grand-ma), pupu (grand-pa), mamma (uncle) and others.
A programme was organized by the Association of Manipuri Diaspora (AMAND) Pune a non-profit, non-government community organization founded by working and retired Manipuri professionals residing in and around the city. The event was held at the Vaikunth National Institute of Cooperative Management complex near Savitri Bai Phule University.
Around 300 Manipuri people from Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur and other neighbouring cities gathered for the function.
Many programs and games were organised by the coordinators Kharibam Somorenso Singh and Soubam Subhachandra Singh to entrain everybody. Also a feast was prepared by AMAND volunteers and included traditional Manipuri favourites like fish curries, ooti, shingju, pan ermba, hawai (dal), morok achar, kheer and rice.
