She wooed us with her jhatkas, her expressions were no less than a super professional. Well, that’s Dipali Borkar for you - Pune’s little darling, India’s super dancer. Reacho had a chat with her and she’s nothing but a true delight. Not many are aware of the fact Dipali started dancing just two years back. It seems like an inborn talent though. She enrolled in dance classes and tried multiple styles. Bollywood dance is her favourite style, though she also does hip hop, belly dance and contemporary. She was away from home dancing to different tunes on the hit reality show, Super Dancer. When she came back, she had barely a week to cope up with the studies she’d missed out on. But she gave it all and came out a shining star. Right from the beginning, she has never compromised on her studies and has been an academic achiever throughout. Humble and sweet, Dipali is someone you’d never get tired watching. Here are a few excerpts from the interview:
From Super Dancer to Kashibai, it’s been quite a journey. How are you feeling about all that is happening?
“I’m really delighted about the way things happened. Super Dancer was an incredible experience. I had a lot of fun with the judges, my choreographer and I made new friends there. I already miss them a lot. And now, I’m taking some time out to get into Kashibai’s character. My curiosity keeps increasing and there’s a lot of anticipation’.
Let’s talk a bit about Peshwa Bajirao.
“The shooting is yet to begin, but I was present at the launch. I practise my dialogues and try to improvise them every day. I had to undergo training in basic swordsmanship. It was a whole new thing for me and I’m really excited about it.”
How was your rapport with the fellow dancers and your choreographer at Super Dancer?
“We became great friends over the time. Sometimes we would fight, but quickly patch things up. It’s been a while, and I miss all of them. I miss all the choreographers too. My choreographer, Sonali is a brilliant dancer and she helped me with expressions. She was very sweet to me throughout. The judges were also very supportive and helped us.”
What do you like more? Dancing or acting?
“Both”, she smiles. We egg her on and she says, “Acting is great. But dancing is my first love”.
Any special moments from Super Dancer?
“Prabhu Sir’s compliment motivated me a lot. Also, reciting dialogues from Devdas with Ranbir Kapoor was unforgettable”.
So who’s your idol?
“There are so many of them. I love Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff. Madhuri Dixit is someone I look up to. Her expressions are so intense”.
You went on The Kapil Sharma Show with your fellow contestants. How was that experience?
“It was a laughter riot. I got to meet Shah Rukh Sir, and that was the best part about it. He walked up to us and wished us luck for our future”.
With Super Dancer and now as Kashibai, you are suddenly under the public eye. How does that feel?
“It’s crazy. People gather around me and take selfies. I tie a scarf around my face and hide it to avoid getting all the attention. I go to school as much as possible and I love to be around my friends. Life has changed and there are days when I miss being my normal self”.
Do your friends treat you like a star now?
“Sometimes”, she beams. “They all welcomed me with hugs and it was so good to be back with all of them. They keep asking me about my experiences at Super Dancer, and I love sharing it all with them. But other than that, they are the same old people”.
And what are your future plans?
“Dancing and acting, that’s about it. I love Shah Rukh Sir’s acting. It’s my dream to work in a movie with him”,
Well, we don’t doubt that. With big dreams and such immense talent, sky is the limit for this little one. We wish her more power.
