Nagpur Metro’s Phase ll will soon be commencing. According to the reports, the detailed project report (DPR) is ready to complete. This report will be submitted to the state government in three months. The RITES, the general consultant of Mahametro, are preparing the DPR.
The prior total length of the phase ll was 57 km. TOI quoted Mahametro managing director Brijesh Dixit as saying, "Metro will be extended up to Kamptee, Butibori, Pardi, and Wadi under the second phase. Its cost is over Rs 10,000 crore".
The length of Phase has been decided by the State Government. "The government will consider the financial angle too. DPR will then go to Niti Aayog followed by Union cabinet for approval," he said.
Nitin Gadkari said in a Mahametro function that until Metro connects Kamptee, Butibori, etc to the city, it is not feasible. MLA from Kamptee and Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has always demanded that Metro be extended up to Kanhan.
RITES had already completed its study which included traffic, topographic and geotechnical data and gave the green light to Phase ll earlier in February.
According to the TOI report, these studies were done for Automotive Square to Kamptee, Prajapati Nagar (near Wardhaman Nagar) to Kapsi (on Bhandara Road), Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna, Mihan to Butibori and Wasudeo Nagar to Wadi.
From Mihan to Butibori the Phase ll will see the longest stretch which is 13km.
