Your greatness is not what you have, it’s what you give!
Thanks to Dan Utsav, the members of VNIT Alumni Association and Prayaas, in association with GOONJ are proving the above statement true.
Daan Utsav is nothing but a celebration of the joy of giving. GOONJ, a Delhi-based NGO organises the Daan Utsav every year in different parts of the country to help people who lost their everything in floods. Every year, the Utsav is celebrated from October 2 to 9.
In Daan Utsav, the volunteers collect used unwanted clothes, kitchen utensils, toys, etc. so that they can donate it to the needy.
“We have a total of 30 collection centres across the city including various residential areas and colleges. The collection material is brought to VNIT which is our main centre. Our volunteers then segregate the material and pass it on to the Mumbai's GOONJ centre," said Joginder Singh, Director of VNIT Alumni Association in an interview to Reacho.
Along with the NGOs, many small organizations have shown their support to Daan Utsav.
"We have at least 4 to 5 members to collect the goods in every collection center. Many local bodies have come up in each area to help us even some residents have come up to show their support for this noble cause," said Singh.
Talking about the problems he had to face, he said, “We all are getting an amazing response. People are coming up voluntarily which is a great thing. But the main problem which we are facing is the carting of the goods from collection centers to our main center which is in VNIT. However, many people are helping us with the transportation but this is still a problem”.
“The students are doing outstanding work, they come to the collection center from 5 to 8, both in the morning and evening," he added.
Joginder Singh, Director of VNIT Alumni Association has requested Nagpurkars to join hands for this noble cause.
