Startup Weekend is 54-hour event designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. The weekend events are centred on action, innovation, and education. Commencing with Friday night pitches, it continues through testing, business model development, and basic prototype creation. Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos to a panel of potential investors and entrepreneurs.
Participants are challenged with building functional Startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. The past two chapters of the Startup Weekend were huge successes, with the winners going on to achieve further milestones in their startup journeys. Winner of the SW Nagpur 2015 edition was ScholFin which later got funding by Sunil Raisoni and the 2016 Winner was Jugaadubaba.
The third edition of Startup Weekend, (organised from 31st March to 2nd April), brought with it a plethora of new ideas and ventures. After the 54 hours long venture, team “SnapSpace” (a media venturing company) was announced the winner.
Some key people who were involved in the event as Judges were Jay Chopde, COO of Emergys Corporation and Shashikant Chaudhary, Co-Founder of Nagpur Angels. The mentors who supported the teams with their expertise were Kartik Kale (Jaika Group), Sachin Yete (V Das Associate), Swati Thakkar (GRESPL), Dipesh Ajmera (Ajmera Tyres), Prasen Lonikar (Klathrate), Salil Rana & Shreyas Bhave (Our First Million).
Ideas: Some interesting ideas came to shape during this weekend. The winner of this edition was the one who received mentoring and support from the sponsors.
From an initiative of delivering home food to hostellers to initiation of alleviating poverty to starting an e-billing or event planning company, the ideas seemed to be limitless.
And, after the 54-hour long venture, Startup Weekend Nagpur’17 had “SnapSpace, an advertisement platform” as the winner.
The event has been regularly organised by the students of VNIT. TiE Nagpur actively deployed their team for assisting the organisers. Abhijeet from thinQbate incubator supported the event as a facilitator. The event was proudly sponsored by TIE Nagpur and CA for Startups.
