In order to aerodynamic auto-rickshaws on the west side of the Nagpur railway station premises, a new post of sub-inspector (traffic) has been created by the city police in order to manage the pre-paid auto-rickshaw booth.

Senior traffic PI Jayesh Bhandarkar confirmed the news and informed that the initiative was taken after receiving several complaints against auto-rickshaw drivers.

The pre-paid booth is currently being operated by an NGO from Mohan Nagar. However, the booth is not being operated properly as most of the auto-rickshaw drivers charge huge fares.

Police commissioner K. Venkatesh Bhandarkar expressed his concern over this issue in an interview to TOI.

"On the directions of the police chief, henceforth a PSI will be deployed at the pre-paid booth round-the-clock to ensure smooth functioning of the auto service," he said.

Altaf Ansari, the representative of auto-rickshaw drivers has welcomed the decision. He has also made an appeal to the cops that no other three-wheelers apart from the auto-rickshaws should operate in the vicinity of the railway station.

The move is being highly appreciated by the people. Further demands of a similar prepaid booth at the east side of the railway station and different areas of the city are also being made.
