Nagpur is famous for oranges is such a 1990s statement. In the last two decades, many actors, writers and singers from Nagpur have done some incredible work and forced the world to notice them.
Eventually, most of them moved to Mumbai to chase their dream of working in Bollywood, Tellywood and the modelling industry, but it's great that their roots are still in Nagpur.

1. Vaibhav Tatwawadi
Vaibhav rose to prominence with his brilliant portrayal of Chimaji Appa in the 2015 blockbuster Bajirao Mastani. The variety of roles that he has played in films like Coffee Ani Barach Kahi, Hunter and Lipstick Under My Burkha has made him one of the promising actors of the film industry.
2. Gayatri Joshi
Swades was a landmark film for Shahrukh Khan. But very few know that the beautiful lady opposite Khan is actually a Nagpurkar. Gayatri Joshi made it to the top five in 1999 Femina Miss India beauty pageant. Years later, Ashutosh Gowarikar spotted her and then Swades happened. While she received a lot of acclaim for her role, Gayatri didn't sign any other films after Swades. Instead, she went ahead signing advertisements and music videos. Today, she is married to a Mumbai-based businessman and is also a proud mother.
3. Rajkumar Hirani
Do I need to say more? Munnabhai MBBS, Lagey Raho Munnabhai, 3 Idiots, and PK are some of the best films of Indian cinema and the man behind them is a Nagpurkar. Also, he's one of the few film directors in the Hindi film industry who have a 100 percent success ratio.
4. Shiv Pandit
Right from hosting IPL to playing Chief Inspector Bajrang Pandey in FIR (later played by Aamir Ali), Shiv, who was born in Nagpur has played many roles in films and TV shows. He was also seen playing lead in a web series- Untagged. His acting in films like Shaitan and Boss was applauded by everyone.
5. Suvarna Mategaonkar- Ketki Mategaonkar
Undoubtedly, one of the most talented mother-daughter duo in the industry! Suvarna Mategaonkar, a very popular name in the field of music has her roots in Nagpur. Her daughter, Ketaki initially started as a singer but then tried her hands at acting. Her varied roles in super successful films like Timepass, Kaaksparsh, Shala have made her one of the most promising actresses of Marathi cinema.
6. Dr. Girish Oak- Girija Oak
Dr. Girish Oak is a well-known name in the film circuits and has been part of many films, plays and TV shows. His daughter, Girija Oak is a popular actress of Marathi cinema and has worked with the likes of Aamir Khan in 2007's Taare Zameen Par.
7. Rohit Roy and Ronit Roy
Born in Nagpur and later raised Ahmedabad, Ronit and Rohit Roy are known for their contribution to Indian television. Ronit received critical acclaim for his roles in Udaan and Ugly. The brothers were last seen together in Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil.
8. Lopamudra Raut
The bold and beautiful Lopamudra Raut became a household name when she entered the Big Boss house. A 2nd runner-up at Miss United Continents 2016, Lopamudra was a student of G.H. Raisoni College of Engineering, Nagpur.
Talking about beauty pageant contestants, the only contestant to represent India in Miss Universe 2013 was Manasi Moghe. Manasi was amongst the top 10 participants competing for the title. Though she is not born and brought in Nagpur, Manasi completed her engineering from Nagpur’s St. Vincent Pallotti College of Engineering. Manasi has been a part of two Marathi films and even featured in a small role in Rock-on 2.
9. Madhu Sapre
Have you seen the controversial ad of 90’s which had Milind Soman and Madhu Sapre posing nude, with a python wrapped around them? 2nd runner-up of Miss Universe 1992, Madhu eventually became a supermodel. Currently, she stays in Italy with her Italian husband and a daughter named Indira.
10. Vaishnavi Dhanraj
Vaishnavi did her schooling from B.R.A. Mundle and went on to study further at Shivaji Science College. She has been a part of the TV dramas like Kasautii Zindagii Kay, CID, Crime Patrol, Parvarish, Begusarai, Sasural Simar Ka, to name a few.
11. Sunnaina Yella
Born in Nagpur, Sunnaina did her schooling from Mount Carmel School. She signed a couple of south Indian films in order to pursue her dream of acting. She shot to fame with the movie- Kadhalil Vizhunthen and has done 20 films in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil.

Swimmer by profession, Pooja became popular when she participated in MTV Roadies. A proud student of Centre Point School and Hislop College, Pooja has been a part of shows like Swim Team, The Adventures of Hatim, and Nagarjun.
