The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s social welfare department will carry out a survey to identify persons with disabilities in the city. The announcement was made by Pragati Patil, chairperson of the women and child welfare consultative committee.
In 2014-15, NMC conducted a survey and found around 7,957 persons with disabilities in the city. However, due to some reasons, the survey wasn't complete and NMC failed to provide disability certificates to many.
Hence, NMC is all set to carry out a fresh survey to identify such people.
According to vice-chairperson Divya Dhurde, in the last financial year, a budgetary provision of Rs 11.65 crore was meant for women and social welfare department. The amount also included Rs 6 crore for physically challenged people. However, out of which only Rs 4.31 crore was spent.
Patil also informed that the NMC is planning to build a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center for specially-abled people.
Social welfare department of NMC will also commence the survey of homeless children in the city. The committee is also planning to start a special training programme for self-help group members.
“This year the NMC will try to introduce new products in its women expo for SHGs and only SHGs registered with the civic body will be allowed to participate," TOI quoted her.
Zone-wise meeting will be conducted by the department with SHGs members between April 15 and April 30. Meanwhile, NMC is all set to construct a 24x7 shelter for women and homes for senior citizens.
