Nitin Gadkari has assured that the Gosikhurd project will be completed by December 2019.
Rs 6,000 crore will be given by the World Bank to complete pending water conservation projects. Gadkari was speaking at the inauguration of the ninth Agro Vision exhibition.
Maharashtra and Gujarat, and the rest of the Centre will be funding the additional 10% for the interlinking of rivers.
The irrigation potential will be raised from 22% to 40% from existing, said Gadkari.
The plan is to lay pipelines instead of canals to reduce costs. He applied central government will give a loan to the state through NABARD. The Maharashtra government will also raise the irrigation budget to Rs 24,000 crore.
Gadkari also revealed that Baba Ramdeo has requested 1,000 acre land to breed desi cows like Sahiwal and Gir in a Rs2,000 crore project. The minister also hinted at preventing the import of pulses and oil seeds, to jack up price of these products for Indian farmers," reports TOI.
