Close on the heels of our beloved Orange City being selected for the central government’s SMART CITY initiative, Nagpur Smart City Council is hosting an APP-A-THON this weekend to crowd-source solutions for our civic problems and to engage the citizenry. An Appathon is an ‘Application Marathon’ and this 2 day event hosted at Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management targets mobile application developers, graphic designers, students and startups to involve them in developing apps for 'Nagpur Smart City'.
Nagpur faces some major challenges on its journey to becoming a Smart City. Some of these include Cleanliness, Traffic Issues, Garbage collection & sorting, Complaints Redressal, Emergency Handling and Various services offered to citizens. The goal of this Appathon is to develop innovative technology based solutions that address these pressing problems. Specific problem statements in each area will be shared with participants on the spot.
The solutions proposed will be showcased to NMC officials and will be judged by an independent jury. Winners will receive cash prizes totaling INR 1,00,000/- and also get FREE Entry to India Smart Grid Week's National Level Appathon at New Delhi in January 2017. Participation fee is only Rs. 500/- per team and a team can comprise of 1-4 members.
Several organizations have come together to make this event possible; they include Nagpur First, Lemon Ideas, Persistent, Calderys, pManifold, The Hitavada, AIESEC etc. The Ecosystem Partners for this event are Nagpur Startups – the largest group of startups and startup enthusiasts in Central India whose mission is to foster entrepreneurship and startup culture in Nagpur, support local startups and play an important role in growing the startup ecosystem.
