The home department has sanctioned another Rs. 101.05 crore to the Directorate of information technology (DIT) for Nagpur Safe and Smart City project.
The Rs. 520 crore project got its share of Rs. 101.05 crores from the total sum of Rs. 173.89 crores which the home department was supposed to contribute.
The notification was released on Wednesday from the home department mentioning the release of funds towards DIT for the said project.
Out of the total project cost of Rs. 520 crores, Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV): Smart Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) is expected to pump in Rs. 103 crore and release it to the DIT.
On behalf of the city police, the home department was supposed to discharge funds of Rs. 173.89 crores, installment wise over the next five years from 2017. The home department, however, has released on Rs. 101.05 crores until now. The rest of the funds had to be demanded by the DIT.
L&T Limited is the company who is executing the project for DIT. The project is said to provide smart city solutions which will go on to aid every Nagpurkar viz the NMC and city police. Thus, making the two contribute towards the project. The balance amount will be pitched in by the state government through DIT.
The project will see: 3,841 CCTVs at 700 locations, optical fibre cable of 1,200km, 10 mobile surveillance vehicles (MVS), 10 drones, 100 Smart Kiosks with 327 services, smart solutions in 239 city buses, public announcement systems at 50 locations, WiFi access points at 790 locations, Smart Strip on WHC road between Khamla square and Japanese garden square etc. be set up in the city.
According to sources, around 80% of the work is completed.
