It looks like NMC is all set to carry out the cleanliness drive for the Nag, Pili and Pora rivers and nullahs in Nagpur from the first week of April. This step is being directed by Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal so that the civic administration is prepared for the monsoon.
In a review meeting convened on Saturday, Mudgal directed all the health officials, assistant municipal commissioners, and other department officials to be prepared for the annual cleanliness drive. He also asked the departments to procure funds from WCL, MOIL and city’s other big industrial houses under corporate social funds.
Following the “Save Nag River- My city, My River” campaign launched by TOI, NMC had launched a campaign to clean the Nag river in 2013. A similar drive was launched for the Pili river in 2014.
Last year in July, Mudgal pointed out that many areas were waterlogged during the monsoons because preventive measures were not taken.
The zonal assistant commissioners have been asked to survey the affected areas and ensure that proper measures are taken this year to prevent waterlogging.
Mudgal has also asked the administrative officers to write to the cement road contractors and the Metro Rail authority to make sure that there is no waterlogging at their construction sites.
