The internal trail run for Metro operations has been started by the Mahametro. The trial would take place on a grade stretch of 5.8km from the Mihan depot to the south of the airport. The Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) of Lucknow shall send a team around September 10 to review the preparations done so far. A bigger team shall be sent later to conduct the trial run.
The track laying at the grade stretch has been completed. A source at Mahametro says, “Track testing will be started soon to meet RDSO’s norms. All the electrical masts for supplying power to the trains have been installed. Currently, testing of the power traction system is being done.”
“We have received five of them—schedule of dimensions, design basis report (stations), design basis report (viaduct), track fastening system and signalling and telecommunication. The ones for track and traction are expected soon. In spite of being lengthy processes, the approvals were obtained very fast and now 75% of our documentation work is complete,” added another source at the Mahametro. It is said that Mahametro had to seek seven approvals of the RDSO.
The internal trial run shall be inaugurated by the Chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, in a formal function. Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari and SBI Chairperson-cum-Managing Director (CMD), Arundhati Bhattacharya will also be joining the Chief Minister of the state. The guest of honour will go on to release the common mobility card (CMC) during the function. Currently, Mahametro is trying to get a common date from the three guests to plan the inauguration.
The Managing Director of Mahametro, Brijesh Dixit had set a target of starting the commercial operations in November, said a source. He further added, “Total of 70% work of the stations is over. Work on signalling and telecommunications is progressing fast. After RDSO clears the Metro operations, we will apply to Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for approval for commercial operations. CMRS team will again check each and every thing and then clear the project.”
The other stretches of Metro are being rapidly developed in the meanwhile. The commercial operation of the Airport- Sitabuldi stretch is proposed in the middle of 2018. The viaduct construction work is taking place round the clock. On its completion, Mahametro will begin the work of laying the tracks and installing electrical masts and signaling gear.
The trial run for this section will be held separately after being cleared by the RDSO and CMRS. The commercial operations will begin only after this.
