Under Pradhan Mantri Gharkul Awas Yojana, the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has decided to build over 10,000 affordable homes in the city. These homes will be constructed in Wanjri, Bharatwada-Punapur, Tarodi and Khurd areas. NIT has also announced that it will later build another 4,057 homes.
Bhushan Shingane, trustee of NIT, told TOI that civic agency's construction estimate was Rs 19,260 per square metre.
"Three agencies have agreed to work at this rate. We have divided the work among them. The houses will be built on no profit, no loss basis. The beneficiary will not be able to sell the houses without NIT's permission for 15 years," he added.
Some 5,142 houses would be built in mouza Wanjri, 4,152 in mouza Bharatwada-Punapur, 2,960 in mouza Tarodi and 1,760 in mouza Khurd. The total comes to 14,057.
These houses were promised by the Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and CM Devendra Fadnavis during the during this year's civic polls.
