Keeping up the promise of installing water ATMs in the city, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has finally set up the first one in the city. City’s civic body roped in a Sweden-based company, Josab Ecological Water Solutions, to open the ATM. The ATM has been placed adjoining KDK College, Nandanvan.
MLA Krishna Khopde of East Nagpur has donated the water ATM to public. Also present at the occasion were - Chairman of NMC city transport committee Bunty Kukde, leader of opposition in NMC Tanaji Wanve, city transport manager Shivaji Jagtap, vice-president of Josab Ecological Dinesh Reddy, corporators and NMC officials.
Four more water ATMs have been planned by Bunty Kukde in association with Josab Ecological.
The water ATMs will be operated and maintained by women self help group (SHG). The revenue generated will be split 50-50 between the women SHG and the company. At present the prices for the water facility are as follows – Rs. 1 for one glass, Rs. 2 for a litre, Rs. 5 per 10 litres and Rs. 10 for 20 litres. NMC will provide water to the ATMs at zero cost.
