While city’s youngsters are busy with Dandiya and Garba, another prominent dance form is making waves, and that is none other than dhunuchi naach.
Well, the youngsters of the city are gearing up to throw a power-packed performance on Ashtami and Navami.
Durga Puja has already commenced from Panchami (from yesterday) and the dhunuchi naach contests will be organized at various Durga Puja pandals on Ashtami and Navami. Many enthusiastic youngsters have already enrolled themselves for this traditional yet unique contest.
"This year, 40 participants have registered till now. On Ashtami's sandhya aarti, the participants will perform the dance, decked up in traditional Bengali finery and match the steps to the dhak beats," President of Ajni Puja Committee, S S Guchhait told TOI.
This traditional dance is performed with an earthen pot and dancers have to hold it in hands and dance. The pot contains a burnt mixture of coconut husk and dhoop powder. Howbeit, the risks involved, but devotion and enthusiasm of the youngsters overcome all the fears.
However, dhunuchi naach is performed across Durga Puja pandals in Nagpur but the dance is not at all restricted to the Bengali community. People from different backgrounds also come and join the celebrations.
