The consultants are already working on exploring the feasibility of the running of high-speed bullet trains on the basis of ‘Government to Government’ co-operation between India and China. Nagpur-Mumbai bullet train connectivity plan is being explored with Spanish Railway companies. These two projects are under the five projects that have been identified and sanctioned among the Mumbai-Ahmedabad project (A high-speed train with a speed of 300 kmph-plus) with financial and technical assistance from Japan.

GOI has received the first interim report on the project feasibility while the second interim report is expected in November 2016. And the final report of this project is anticipated in January 2017.

Apart from high-speed bullet train connectivity, Indian Railways has identified eight more corridors for ‘Gatimaan Express’ (semi high-speed trains with a running speed between 160-200 kms per hour). Among the eight corridors, Nagpur-Bilaspur and Nagpur-Secunderabad are the projects of which feasibility is being explored. Nagpur-Bilaspur corridor is in South-East Central Railways while Nagpur-Secunderabad is in Central and South-Central Railways.
