The Supreme Court, on Monday, reinstated the ban on the sale of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR, saying that there was “direct evidence of deterioration of air quality at alarming levels” every year during Diwali on account of the bursting of firecrackers.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision, the Bombay High Court, on Tuesday, imposed a blanket ban on the sale of firecrackers in residential areas across Maharashtra.
Given the fact that Diwali is around the corner, this decision has received a mixed response. While the environmentalists are elated with the decision, the suppliers are somewhat dissatisfied.
