Ganesh Chaturthi is around the corner and pandals are gearing up for the ten days long celebrations.

However, this year, district guardian minister and state energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has urged all the pandals and officials of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to spread social awareness regarding environment during these ten days.

While addressing a meeting of NMC with Ganesh pandals at the NMC Town Hall, the minister said, “Ganesh Utsav is widely celebrated in Nagpur and is one the largest social gatherings. So, it is very important to spread messages on Swachh Bharat Mission, government schemes, save water campaigns, Green Ganesh Utsav celebrations among citizens.”

Mayor Nanda Jichkar, who was also present in the meeting, assured that the NMC will make sure that the citizens don't  face any problem during the festival.

She also urged the city to make sure that environmental balance is not disturbed during the celebrations.

“To celebrate a Green Ganesh Utsav we need support and participation of citizens. Only with their cooperation, we can strive to save water and our precious lakes. NMC is setting up artificial tanks for immersion. It is our city and our responsibility to keep it clean," she said.
