For tracking the improvements of cleanliness standards under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) started the “Swachh Survekshan”, which can be called as the most ‘healthy’ competition of all times.
In the survey, the ranking of cities was on the basis of cleanliness and other aspects of urban sanitation.
Last year, 73 cities were competing against each other, where Mysore was declared the cleanest city in India. In that survey, Nagpur bagged 20th position.
But this year, the competition got tougher!
In the "Swachh Survekshan 2017”, about 500 cities all over India were ranked. Quality Council of India (QCI) evaluated the cities on the basis of improvement from last year, cleanliness and other aspects of urban sanitation.
Unfortunately, Nagpur fell down to 137th position. Nagpur, being the hometown of Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Central Cabinet Minister Nitin Gadkari, the result is quite shocking!
Guess, we ‘Nagpurkars’ need to be more aware of the sanitation in and around our city. Nonetheless, we believe that there is a huge scope for improvement and Nagpurians need to take this as a collective responsibility!
