The number of trains connecting Nagpur to Pune is surprisingly few. Passengers between the two major cities of Maharashtra, however, have been offered some respite with the introduction of the 22124/3 Ajni Pune AC Superfast Express, which will run on a weekly basis.
The train was flagged off for its maiden run from Ajni by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday.
The train will start from Ajni every Tuesday at 19.50 hours, halting at Wardha, Dhamangaon, Badnera, Bhusaval, Manmad, Kopargaon and Dound, reaching Pune at 11.45 hours the next day.
The return journey from Pune will be every Friday at 15.15 hours, reaching Ajni the next morning at 05.15 hours.
This comes as a welcome addition for both Nagpur and Pune between which travel is frequent but options are limited. The train will consist of nine AC 3-tier coaches, four AC 2-tier coaches and one First AC coach.
The train will be brought into service on May 12 from Pune and May 16 from Nagpur.
