FC Pune city marginally edged Mumbai city FC in a thrilling encounter in Indian Super League (ISL) on Thursday. There were a lot of expectations from both the teams going in this game and both the teams stood up to their expectations by putting in a spirited display of Maharashtra Derby.
Initially it appeared as if the game was heading towards a draw. Mumbai city wasted no time to bring back Sunil Chhetri, India’s flamboyant striker where he paired with Diego Forlan in a 2 striker formation. The game was mostly dominated by Mumbai City throughout. They maintained most of the possession and their transition from defense to attack was simply outstanding. Despite being outplayed for the most part of the game, Pune city managed to grab a late goal in dying minutes. Eugeneson Lyngdoh scored the late winner for FC Pune city by slamming the ball into the back of net from a close range.
Thursday’s victory for Pune was a huge confidence booster for them. Pune lost against Mumbai in their last encounter and hence this victory was a perfect momentum to their campaign going in.
