City music lovers are in for a treat as Chitnavis Centre is organising “Appreciating Indian Music with Anuja Kamat”, a lecture demonstration by the internet sensation.
The event will be held in the Tamarind, Chitnavis Centre on 15th April 2018 at 6 pm.
Anyone who loves Indian music has definitely heard of Anuja Kamat. In her YouTube videos, she tries to familiarise people with the basic theory behind Indian Classical music, so that they can appreciate it better. Passionate about Indian music, Kamat was first seen as a participant in the pilot season of Marathi Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.
Kamat started her musical journey at the tender age of eight and since then, she has never looked back. She has taken guidance in light-classical music from Smt. Uttara Kelkar and she is currently learning Hindustani Shastriya Sangeet from Smt. Shucheta Athalekar and Smt. Shashwati Mandal Paul.
Anuja has obtained a degree with distinction in both Hindustani Music from the University of Mumbai and in Economics from St. Xavier’s College. She has won several district and state-level competitions.
Her YouTube channel aims to introduce people to Indian classical music. It is an independent project, produced, conceived and directed entirely by Kamat.
In “Appreciating Indian Music with Anuja Kamat” Kamat will be talking about the similarities and differences between Indian and Western music, she will explain what is a raag and why we feel what we feel when we listen to a raag. She will also shed light on how to go about Riyaaz in Light and Classical singing.
The entry to this event is free for the annual members of Chitnavis Centre and donation passes will be available at the venue for non-members.
