Bicycle Sharing Project Will Soon Be A Reality In Nagpur Thanks To NMC!

Thanks to Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) aim of bringing about ecological transportation system, Nagpur will soon have its own bicycle sharing project.

The project which will reduce the motorized transport in the city will be a step toward making Nagpur a smart city.

A proposal to obtain assent for this project has been forwarded by the NMC’s traffic department in the general body meeting. The meeting which was held on March 20 had calling out for interested operators as its agenda.

According to the proposal, the responsibility of purchasing and maintaining the bicycles will be of the operator. The purchased bicycles will be used under the self-start dock-less cycle transport scheme.

The operator will also be liable to incur all the relevant expenses pertaining to its usage and repairs. Insurance charges too, will be covered by the operator. Depending on the need, NMC can appoint multiple operators for the project.

However, the city police will be entrusted with the responsibility of safety and protection of the cycles.

NMC’s public works department submitted another proposal over National Highways Authority of India proposal of entrusting four stretches of road viz. Zero Mile to Automotive Square, Zero Mile to Khapri ROB, Hotel Pride to Ajni Chowk and Kadbi Chowk to Automotive Chowk, for repair and maintenance. These patches were earlier cement concretized.
