Nagpur's Banwarilal Purohit Sworn In As The 25th Governor Of Tamil Nadu!

Purohit, who was previously the Governor of Assam, took the oath at Raj Bhavan in Chennai.

Banwarilal Purohit was sworn in as the 25th Governor of Tamil Nadu on Friday in an oath-taking ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in Chennai.

The Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Justice Indira Banerjee administered the oath to Purohit while, he took the vow in the name of god.

Many officials including Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, his cabinet colleagues and DMK Working President and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly MK Stalin were present at the ceremony.

Purohit, who earlier was the Governor of Assam, will now replace the current governor of Tamil Nadu, Ch Vidyasagar Rao.

On September 29, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan read out the warrant of appointment issued by President Ram Nath Kovind, appointing Purohit as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.

Moreover, he is also the first full-time Governor of the state since the retirement of K Rosaiah in August 2016.

Banwarilal Purohit is a very well known political leader from Nagpur. He was also a three-time Lok Sabha member from Nagpur constituency.

After starting his political career in 1977, he was elected to Maharashtra Assembly twice with Congress’s ticket in 1979 and 1980. Later he joined BJP and was elected to Maharashtra Assembly in 1996.
