For the last 16 years, Nagpur’s very own Visvesvaraya National Institute Of Technology is organising AXIS, an annual technical festival in order to provide exposure of current and future technologies to the young curious minds.
In the past, personalities like late Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam and Dinesh Keskar have graced the event.
This year, the techno-fest will be inaugurated by Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri and Maharashtra Bhushan awardee Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, who is most popularly known as the architect of India’s first supercomputer ‘PARAM’.
The 17th edition of AXIS will take place from February 23 to 25, 2018.
“Tech-fests are organised on a large scale in cities like Mumbai, and students from Nagpur attend them with great enthusiasm. But when a similar event is organised in Nagpur’s renowned college, there is no interest shown from their end. This year, we wish to change this notion,” says Eshant Kubde, Core Co-ordinator of AXIS’18.
While AXIS is somewhat similar to the tech-fests you usually attend in big cities, this year, in particular, will be slightly different. For AXIS, this year is the year of many firsts.
Here are five things that make AXIS’18 stand out among other technical festivals:
1. The Mitra Robot
Those attending AXIS, this year, will get a golden opportunity to interact with the Mitra Robot. The robot was launched by PM Narendra Modi and Ms. Ivanka Trump at Global Entrepreneurial Summit, Hyderabad. Programmed to greet customers and interact using facial and speech recognition, contextual help, and autonomous navigation, the Mitra Robot will grace the event on its inaugural day.
2. Techonomics (TNS)
For the first time, a tech-fest will be conducting a panel discussion which would host top-notch leaders in fields of politics, industry, IT, administration and innovation at the VNIT Campus. The panel discussion includes well-known personalities like Nitin Gadkari, Dhiraj Nayyar, Tamal Bandyopadhyay and Amit Kasliwal.
3. ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Exhibition
This year, AXIS will be hosting Vikram Sarabhai Space Exhibition organised by Space Applications Centre, ISRO, a first for central India. A set of about 20 static panels related to remote sensing satellites and communication satellite and their applications, Chandrayan-1 mission, models of the camera of Mars mission, satellite images, scaled down models of various launching vehicles like PSLV and GSLV will be displayed in this exhibition.
4. Vidarbha Innovation Challenge
In order to provide technical and innovative ideas to the problems faced by Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, AXIS is teaming up with Technical Education Augmentation Mission and Vibha, for the very first time. Those with technical innovative ideas will be presenting their solutions in the Vidarbha Innovation Challenge. Another first for any tech-fest!
5. And all of it for FREE!
While major tech-fests in the country charge exorbitantly, one can attend all the innovative events of AXIS’18 for free. Just imagine, the kind of information and technological exposure and that too for free. Now that’s something!
