In the wake of rising air pollution, Supreme Court, on Monday, banned the sale of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR till November 1 ahead of Diwali.

Hours before SC announced the decision, Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh had appealed to his fans not to burst any crackers, spreading awareness about a pollution-free Diwali.

In a video shared on his Twitter handle, on Sunday, Yuvraj urged his fellow Indians to refrain from using crackers and celebrate the festival of lights by lighting up lamps in peace. He also raised the health issues caused due to air pollution and recalled the trouble he had last year when he could not get out of his house.

However, his request backfired as he ended up receiving flak on the social media network. Some asked him to mind his own business, while others went on to advise him to use plastic bats in order to save trees and stop using air-conditioners and cars for comfort. Few also accused him of being anti-Hindu and questioned why didn’t he speak up during Bakri Eid.
