A 24-year old Mumbai student committed suicide by jumping from the 19th floor of the plush Taj Lands End Hotel in Bandra, on Monday.
The deceased identified as Arjun Bhardwaj, who originally hails from Bengaluru, also posted a suicide tutorial in a 1 minute 40 seconds live video on Facebook, just minutes before taking the extreme step.
“In the macabre Facebook Live video recorded just moments before he leapt to his death from his room, Bhardwaj is seen with a bottle of red wine, and smoking a cigarette, and he is wearing a bathrobe. "Today's tutorial," he says, "is about how to suicide, like about if you want to jump off from Lands End. He then goes on to a provide a step-by-step guide, which includes leaving detailed notes to loved ones. Bhardwaj then trains his phone's camera on the seven notes lying on his table, which he left behind for his family and a few friends. Step 3, says Bhardwaj, is to enjoy the view, pointing the camera at the window that frames a fiery sunset; and step 4 is to "enjoy some bacon pasta". Bhardwaj loses track of the 'steps' and reprimands himself. Towards the end of the video, he says, "Ok, I don't think I can record this while doing it. But f*** it, okay cool... See you guys on the other side,” reports Mumbai Mirror.
It is said that Arjun was disturbed for a past couple of days and even revealed his plans to commit suicide to his father. After which, his father visited him in Mumbai. During his last days, Arjun was staying at his relative’s place in Chembur.
The police also said that Arjun appeared to be a drug addict and had browsed various death-related sites on the internet.
"There were lots of sites that he visited that had to do with dying, and celebrating death. He had evidently come prepared. The notes were addressed to several people, including family members, but were mostly about how death was a celebration,” said a senior police officer in an interview given to Mumbai Mirror.
Condolences started to pour in on social media as soon as the news of Arjun’s death was announced. Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma took to Twitter and expressed her views on this tragic incident.
THIS is why we HAVE to talk about mental health openly !! At home ! In school ! At work place ! it should NOT be a taboo! So so saddened— Anushka Sharma (@AnushkaSharma) April 4, 2017
The last post on his Facebook account is that of a picture of the Arabian sea taken from his room of the hotel. He captioned the picture as ‘View to die for’.
Who would’ve expected Arjun to actually take this caption in a literal sense!
