The wreckage of the Indian Air Force Sukhoi-30 Fighter Jet that went missing has been found close to the last known position of the fighter aircraft, ANI reports. However, there was no information on the two missing pilots.
The debris of the fighter jet was found in a dense forest area near the China border. “Wreckage found. Close to the last known position of aircraft. As of now, the weather is bad and the place has dense foliage. Further update follows,” said the IAF in an official statement, reports ANI.
The Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet went missing near the China border around 60 km north-west of the Tezpur air base in Assam on May 23. Within less than an hour after taking off from the air force station, the aircraft had lost radar and radio contact near the China border.
Two pilots were onboard the aircraft and their location is yet to be ascertained. However, it is being presumed that they did not survive the crash.
As part of the massive search operation, four ground teams of IAF personnel, nine of the Indian Army and two of state administration were deployed. In addition to that, Su-30 and C-130 aircraft with electro-optical payload and ALH helicopters had been pressed into service.
Since 2011, the Indian Air Force have lost over 60 aircrafts and choppers in crashes. This is the second time that a Sukhoi-30 of the Tezpur base has met with trouble.
