The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) which is ideally supposed to certify films, and decides what the wanted and unwanted scenes to be shown, has been in the debate for the numerous cuts ordered for ‘Udta Punjab’. Due to the weird footage and language in the film CBFC has taken a stand to halt the release and cut a number of unwanted scenes which can ‘harm the society’.

One of the cuts include removal of name Punjab and other places in Punjab from the entire movie. The names include Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Moga and all other city names. Even the words ‘Election’ ‘MLA’ and ‘MP’ have been asked to be removed.

With the large number of cuts proposed, the board has been criticised for damaging the very soul of the movie. And what would be the purpose to make such movie if it gets such a treatment from the board?
