The Run Machine will now work with the German giant Puma to launch a signature line of sports lifestyle products with a special logo and brand identity. With this humongous deal, Virat Kohli has become the first Indian sportsperson to sign a Rs 100-crore endorsement contract with a single brand. Kohli has now joined the league with some of the greatest sportspersons of recent times including Jamaican sprinters Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell and soccer stalwarts Thierry Henry and Oliver Giroud.
The 8-year contract involves a fixed payment and royalty depending on the brand's business performance. Both Puma and Kohli were unavailable for comment on other financial details of the endorsement deal.
"It's a privilege to be part of a great list of athletes that Puma has. Not just today's icons like Usain Bolt but also the brand's rich history with Pele, Maradona, Thierry Henry and others," Kohli told TOI.
"Both Puma and I are committed to a long-term partnership. I am impressed by the way Puma has gained popularity and market leadership in India in a short period of time," he added.
Known for his fiery nature on the field, and his style statements off it, the social media freak who enjoys a huge fan base took to Instagram to announce his new endeavour.
The first Puma commercial featuring Kohli is expected to air on Monday.
