College is about burning the midnight oil even if it is spent binge watching series’ on Netflix or the pretense of studies. But during either of the two finding a midnight snack was very difficult until now. But not anymore because the PIZZA Vending Machine is here!
Last week Xavier University in Cincinnati turned out to become the most student friendly institution by installing a Pizza ATM, America's first pizza vending machine. After a long history of popularity in the Europe, Paline, a French company introduced the Pizza ATM in the US and is hoping for similar success.
On his interview with the NBC News Xavier Assistant Vice President Jude Kiah said "We were looking for a cost-effective way to solve this problem of having a late-night pizza option on campus. We liked the idea of being the first school to have this high-quality machine."
Kiah said that the school had also tried concepts like Sandwich Bars and Mexican Restros but they would not be open very late just like the school’s dining facility that closes at 8 pm.
This new 24/7 open, Pizza ATM will be able to present about 70 pizzas at a time, that too in three minutes of ordering. Each 12-inch pie will cost $9 to $10, depending on toppings. You can also choose toppings from the touch-screen menu.
It is still in trial phase but the university plans to have it fully up and running for students when classes begin in this fall. Simply swipe a card or a pre-loaded student ID and have your pizza!
The machine-made pizzas will not differ from dining hall pizzas in quality because the food staff will have an eye over it. So basically instead of the staff, the machine will cook the pizzas at 475 degree.
Though it is the first pizza vending machine in the U.S., the idea of a food ATM isn’t new. New York has cupcake ATMs already which work just as fine.
Let’s hope that the Pizza ATM Fad catches up here too and reaches India soon.
