Freak things happen around the world all the time which prove there are so many things out of our control and if they take a positive turn they are nothing short of being called miracles. Recently there was this Facebook post by a Missy Berberabe Umandal, who witnessed a sort of miracle while flying from Dubai.
Last month, on a Cebu Pacific Air flight from Dubai to the Phillipines, a woman unexpectedly went into labour. She wasn’t due and her state caused quite a flutter onboard.
"The lady started having contractions mid-flight, about five hours while going from Dubai to the Philippines. She was set to give birth in October, so this came as a surprise, even to her mother,"
Flight attendants dealt with this panic situation with calm and managed to find two nurses among passengers. The crew cabin front was turned into an emergency makeshift delivery room. One tedious childbirth we can say!
"We only heard one semi-loud screech, and a few seconds later, there were tinier, cute screeches, and it was when we knew the baby was born".
She narrated the entire incident with perfect description, "Moments later, the woman got up to go back to her seat, baby in arms (mighty strong, I might say). There were 2 other babies with us in the front row, and one of the passengers had a suitcase full of infant clothes and necessities, which could not have come at a better time."
Our president and CEO Lance Gokongwei said, “We are happy that both mother and daughter are doing well, and would like to commend our flight and cabin crew for handling the situation with utmost professionalism and efficiency. We also express our sincerest gratitude to the two volunteer nurses who helped ensure the baby’s safe delivery.”
Baby girl Haven was born approximately four hours after the departure of flight 5J015 from the Dubai International Airport last Sunday, August 14, 2016. The flight was diverted to Hyderabad, India, to ensure the mother and baby received medical assistance. Both mother and baby, who was born premature at 32 weeks, are being assisted by CEB’s Customer Care team.
The officials onboard said "Very lucky baby! Since she was born in a Cebu Pac plane, she gets FREE TRAVELS FOR A LIFETIME with the airline. Congratulations to the first-time Mom and Grandma! "
This sweet gesture by the airlines was one of its kind just like this little baby’s sudden birth. CEB News: Cheers to the first baby born on one of our flights! To celebrate, we're giving her 1 million GETGO PH points, which have no expiry and may be shared with her family.
The flight was diverted to India to keep the baby safe and made an emergency landing in Hyderabad. "The newborn and mother are fine and under medical supervision. After initial examination by the medical staff, they were moved to the mother and child care centre of a hospital in the city," airport authorities quoted.
The woman, and her own mother who was travelling with her, were given three-day temporary visas, as was the baby. They have promised to extend it till both mother and baby are fit to fly.
Now this baby will have a great story to tell when she grows up!
