In April 2010, the then Government constituted a committee to draft a new disability rights legislation, keeping in mind India's commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

Following that in February 2014 the The Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Bill was proposed in Rajya Sabha.

On December 2, the eve of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the entire country was looking at Rajya Sabha in hopeful anticipation that it would passed the bill.

Since, the bill has been prolonged for two years now, National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) took it the responsibility to spread the news and bring it to the knowledge of our MPs.
