The Trailer For “Lipstick Under My Burkha” Gives A Glimpse Of Latent Desires But Gets The Wrong Message Across

That is one steamy trailer.

Lipstick Under My Burkha, Trailer, Alankrita Shrivastava, Prakash Jha, Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma

Directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, who previously directed Turning 30 for Prakash Jha Productions, Lipstick.. tells the story of four women who wish to throw the metaphorical; and in one case, literal; burkha off.

Starring such acting stalwarts as Ratna Pathak Shah and Konkona Sen Sharma alongside relative newcomers Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur, the movie is about the exploration of their desires by said women.

However, it is sad that the same has been relegated to mostly dealing with sexual awakening or simply, well, sex. Whether the trailer has been cut in this particular way to make the movie more appealing to a broad audience is something that will be revealed only when it hits theatres on December 2.

Agreed that there need to be more movies where the women should be shown breaking the barriers of the stifling patriarchal system, but isn’t sexual awakening just a part of it?

What do you feel about it? Let us know.
