Man made God made Man, they say. Ever wondered what it would be like if everybody’s favourite deity, Ganpati Bappa, charged premiums for special blessings? Or refused to listen to you because you missed an appointment?
The festive season is upon us. The season when we post enthusiastic groupies in traditional clothes with a Proud to be hashtag. What exactly we’re proud of, we’re not so sure.
Riteish Deshmukh, in collaboration with Star Pravah and Mumbai Film Company attacks this loss of spirit, the commercialisation of festivals, and the corrupt practices that we as a society have internalised, with a new video, Thank God Bappa.
The quirky Marathi song with a rap element wonders how life would be if God behaved like us humans, and harboured the same malaises- corruption, nonchalance, rigidity- that our society suffers from. (Don’t worry, there are English subtitles too!)
With lyrics by Kapil Sawant and music by Amar Mangrulkar, this song will make you laugh, and then think:
Thank God indeed, Bappa is nothing like us!
