Desmond Napoles, the 10 year old self-confessed “androgynous drag kid” is once again in news and how!
The head-turner kid who set the New York Fashion Week ramp on fire is now going to bask in the limelight by being the face of the New York City Pride 2018.
A video which surfaced recently was shot with Desmond on the NYC Pride’s theme of the year ‘Defiantly Different’. The Brooklyn kid, who is also a LGBTQ rights activist has spoken about finding being a teen drag icon as an ‘amazing’ feeling in the video.
“I am different because I am very young and doing drag at a very young age,” says Napoles. Desmond goes with the name ‘Desmond Is Amazing’ in the showbiz. “It gives me courage, and it also gives other people courage to do what they want,” he added.
Desmond made his NYFW debut this year by walking for Gypsy Sport’s fall 2018 show.
Quiz him about when did he come out of the closet, he says ‘when he was born’. The child artist is one of the many performers, mental health advocates and other LGBTQ personalities who’ll be making it to the NYC Pride this June.
The celebration of the Pride Parade will revolve around the theme “Defiantly Different”, which will advocate “the rallying cry of generations who laid the groundwork for equality, the next wave of creative thinkers prepared to score their own trails, and each distinctive individual in between.”
“This year’s theme is about showing our power, squaring our shoulders in the face of adversity, and continuing to sculpt that magnetic bond within the LGBTQ+ community and our allies,” said NYC Pride co-chair David Studinski, in a news release. “We are standing defiantly ― defiantly different and defiantly as one.”
Other LGBTQ personalities such as transgender model Pêche Di and 94-year-old activist Frances Goldin will also be present along with Desmond. The photoshoot campaign of the Pride this year was shot by Danielle Levitt.
The NYC Pride 2018 will be inaugurated on June 14.
