Technology never stands still, it continuously changes, adapts and progresses to a new extent and oftentimes, things that seem impossible can quickly become possible only a few short years afterwards. As far as tech world is concerned, year 2016 is pretty much over. But 2017 is here, and it has some cool and fascinating surprises up its sleeves. Below are some of the cool gadgets and technologies likely to launch next year.
Google Smart Clothing
Project Jacquard is a revolutionary technology that weaves electronics into your clothing. The project aims to make use of a special conducting fabric to produce interactive surfaces that respond to gestures.
One of the best use cases is for an urban cyclists. Users can tap, swipe or hold on the left-cuff to the sleeve to fulfill simple tasks like changing music tracks, blocking or answering calls or accessing navigation information delivered by voice. All these functions can be performed while riding in place of having to pull the phone. Google has demoed this tech in collaboration with Levi's (check the video below).
More clothing brands are expected to follow and we expect to see a commercial release in 2017. This project is rightfully the ‘implementation of the millennium’.
Amazon introduced ‘Amazon Go’, which shows a glimpse of how shopping might look in the future. A real world grocery store where there’s no checkout process. You just walk in the store, scan a code through your amazon app, grab whatever you want and walk out, just like that. All of this is done through the advanced Artificial Intelligence and sensor fusion technology used in the store as well as through the app. This service is set to launch early in 2017. Emergence Of Virtual Reality (VR) And Augmented Reality (AR)
VR and AR have been the most talked about things from past few years. However, 2017 could be the year when we start seeing the technologies into mainstream through launch of consumer products by different companies.
Even though Google scrapped plans for an Oculus Rift competitor, the company is still working on a ‘standalone’ headset which includes features of both augmented and virtual reality. Although, its features may lean more on augmented reality, the device could be more similar to that of Microsoft’s Hololens, which works on windows 10, than that of the Oculus rift. But, most of all Magic Leap is the most exciting thing in AR right now, more exciting than Hololens and Google Glass 2. Magic Leap is developing what it refers to as ‘Mixed Reality Lightfield’, that combines both AR and VR and places 3D elements in real environments via a headset with smart-glasses or transparent lenses.
Magic Leap is expected to release its developer kits in March 2017 and commercial release could follow later. Here’s what Magic Leap has to show:
Bezel Less Phones
This absolutely stunning advancement in screen technology was put forward by Xiaomi while launching their concept phone Mi Mix. Xiaomi Mi Mix is basically a concept phone brought to life. The best thing about this phone is that the entire screen covers up whole face of the phone and its insane-beautiful edgeless display is out of this world. Basically this is what all the future phones would look like.
There are already reports that the biggies such as Apple and Samsung could follow the suit and launch such bezel-less phones in 2017.
It looks like science fiction, but it’s real. One day, seeing Prime Air vehicles will be as normal as seeing mail trucks on the road. Amazon Prime Air is a service that will deliver packages up to five pounds in 30 minutes or less using small drones. The drones will be built with sophisticated ‘sense and avoid’ technology. The Amazon Prime air development centers are located in the United States, the United Kingdom, Austria and Israel. To know more about the drone delivery, check out the video:
Xbox Project Scorpio
Microsoft’s upcoming ‘scorpio’ console is simply amazing. With the PS4 Pro, Sony delivered a more powerful PlayStation that can play every single PS4 game ever released, and will continue to support every PS4 game going forward. The Project Scorpio aims to replicate that and with its specifications and high-end functionalities, it is said that it can be more powerful than the PlayStation 4 Pro, claiming that the Pro won't be able to handle 4K gaming. Here’s everything you want to know about the project Scorpio set to be launched in 2017:
