In a bid to elevate humanity, Stephen Hawking’s has projected his opinion by saying that we'll need a new place to live 100 years from now and has urged countries to send astronauts to the Moon by 2020 and Mars by 2025.

Speaking via live stream at the Starmus Festival, Hawking claimed that now is the time to start planning moon colonies and that Mars should be the immediate successor once we've accomplished that.

Hawking said,

We are running out of space, and the only place we can go to are other worlds. It is time to explore other solar systems. Spreading out may be the only thing that saves us from ourselves. I am convinced that humans need to leave Earth.

He also suggests that space agencies should aim to set up a lunar base within the next 30 years.

According to Hawking,

There is no long-term future for our species staying on Earth. It would either be hit by an asteroid again or eventually engulfed by our own Sun. Travelling to distant worlds would “elevate humanity

Hawking listed out major risks that can create hindrance in mankind survival are global warming, resource shortages, and overpopulation; though he admitted that the idea of venturing to another planet is not possible at this point, he maintained that Earth is simply not enough for humanity.
