If you are searching for Patanjali's product then you don’t need to step into their retail store anymore, go anywhere the products are spread out everywhere. With their market share surging so high everyone just blindly followed Ramdev baba’s league. But thanks to efforts led by the quality check control system who went to the core to monitor bugs.

Right to Information (RTI) reply revealed,

When inspected, nearly 40% of Ayurveda products, including items from Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali, were found to be of substandard quality by Haridwar’s Ayurveda and Unani Office, a Right to Information (RTI) reply revealed.

Based on the samples collected from 2013 to 2016, total 32 samples out of 82 failed the quality test. To our surprise, the popularly used Patanjali’s Divya Amla Juice and Shivlingi Beej were among the products that couldn’t pass the quality standards.

The armed forces’ Canteen Stores Department (CSD) last month had to suspend the sale of Patanjali’s amla juice entire batch. The reason is very simple- it ‘failed’ a quality test carried out at West Bengal Public Health Laboratory.

According to Uttarakhand state government lab report, the pH value- which measures the alkalinity of water soluble substances- was found to be less than the prescribed limit in the amla juice. Products with pH value less than seven could lead to acidity and other medical complications.

The RTI’s reply also revealed that 31.68% of foreign matter was found in the Shivlingi Beej.

Ramdev’s associate and Patanjali’s managing director, Acharya Balkrishna, refused to admit the lab report and claimed that the report was an attempt to malign Patanjali’s image and said

Shivlingi Beej is a natural seed. How can we adulterate it?

The other 18 products that were found substandard were Avipattikara Churna, Talisadya Churna, Pushyanuga Churna, Lavan Bhaskar Churna, Yograj Guggulu, Laksha Guggulu.

One of the manufacturers, Minor Forest Produce Processing And Research Centre (MFP-PARC), said the drugs were supplied only after Uttrakhand Ayush wing’s approval.

Harak Singh Rawat minister of AYUSH- The Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy said,

We have a lab in Haridwar to test the samples but it lacked the required staff. We have now appointed five new chemists and are in the process of recruiting more.

This news had left us in a conundrum and here we are struggling with trust issues again.
