Recent implementation of the demonetization plan by Modi Government has taken a substantial toll on numerous sectors and businesses, generating mixed reviews among citizens. In an unfortunate news for the Indian tennis fans, Roger Federer and Serena Williams have officially decided to pull out of the Indian Premier Tennis League (IPTL). The two legendary tennis champions were set to play the league from December 9 to 11 in Hyderabad.
Mahesh Bhupathi, the founder and manager of IPTL, confirmed in his statement "We have had challenges this year, and we were hoping to get past them. With the current economic climate in India and the uncertainty of spending money, I reached out to both Roger and Serena to explain the situation. They have been both been very supportive of the IPTL the first two seasons and we look forward to bring them in future years.”
Fans were excited and eager to witness Federer and Williams in action. Their absence will mean a lackluster tournament, which is already reduced to a 3 city affair instead of its usual five. It is believed that IPTL were facing certain financial problems. With number of high-profile players missing from this year’s league, it is very uncertain and unlikely that this tournament will have any future ahead.
