Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Rani Padmavati will start filming come next month.
The movie, which has seen its fair share of ups and downs, will start filming for a tentative release in December 2017.
The film has a massive budget, with some insiders pegging the number at somewhere between Rs. 150 crores - 170 crores and given the legendary story, and Bhansali’s eye for alluring visuals, it doesn’t seem like an overstatement for once.
The movie will see Deepika Padukone in the titular role of Queen Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as her husband King Rawal Ratan Singh of Chittor and Ranveer Singh in the first out-and-out negative role of his career, that of Alauddin Khilji. The legend states that a war ensued between King Ratan Singh and Khilji for the former’s wife, i.e. Padmavati, with Ratan Singh losing his life in an unrelated combat and Padmavati later performing Jauhar or self-immolation, to preserve her sanctity.
The movie will have a start-to-finish schedule of over four months and with the talent attached to it both on-screen and off it, we have sky-high expectations with this one.
