The upcoming Johnny Depp-starrer Pirates of The Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales has reportedly been leaked ahead of its release on May 26. Coming hot on the heels of recent ransomware attacks, the media learned of this news after Disney CEO Bob Igor's comments to the ABC employees were leaked.
This type of attack is nothing new. Recently, in a similar attack, a hacker uploaded 10 episodes of the upcoming season 5 of Orange Is The New Black on The Pirate Bay after Netflix refused to pay up. In Disney's case, the hackers have threatened to leak first five minutes of the movie first and later 20-minute chunks periodically unless a huge sum is paid through bitcoin currency.
Igor has reportedly refused to pay the sum and has alerted the investigative agencies of the incident. The Pirates of The Carribean franchise has garnered over $3.7 billion since its inception and is amongst the most expensive franchise in the world. Clearly, a leak would significantly hamper the upcoming movie's success.
No official statement has been released as of yet, but we will keep you informed in light of any new information.
