Maneka Gandhi, the Union Minister for women and child development launched a web portal NARI on Tuesday. The portal will provide information about all the different government schemes for women.
To get information about the various state and central government programmes and schemes for women, users can log on to www.nari.nic.in.
The NARI portal has information about almost 350 schemes for women and it will be updated regularly.
The schemes on the portal are divided into the following seven categories viz. education, health, employment, housing, and shelter, addressing violence, decision making, and social support.
The Union Minister also launched e-SAMWAD, a website for NGOs. The portal will allow various NGOs to get in touch with the ministry and share the work they do and give suggestions and feedback.
Gandhi also informed the press that a trial run for mobile phones with a panic button will soon be initiated in Uttar Pradesh by the government.
Despite the fact that the government had ordered mobile companies in April 2016 to make it mandatory for all mobile phones to have panic buttons from January 2017, the implementation was delayed.
The portal is a step taken to improve security for women by giving them a medium to alert the local police.
