Forence Owiti Opiyo, from Kibigori in Kenya, dropped out from the school for an unlikely reason. No, he wasn't involved in any notorious activities, instead, it was his testicles which forced him to do so.
When he was just 10, Forence noticed a cyst on his genitals. While he removed the cyst in 2007, it re-emerged and became so big that he even struggled to walk.
"This thing started very small, like a boil. Then it was the size of my fist. It just continued to grow bigger and bigger. It was operated on and they removed it. They did some tests and found out it was had not been fully removed but I could not come back due to the post-election violence and I stayed home. I finished my medicine but it continued to grow. I was supposed to come for a second operation but we could raise the money we needed," he said in an interview to UNILAD.
Forence's parents died when he was just five and he lives with his grandmother and brother Eliza. As he belongs to a poor background, Forence couldn't pay for his medications. Hence, for this, he started mending shoes.
"With a view to help the family in need, their neighbor clicked Forence's pictures and uploaded on the internet. I took his photos and posted it on my Facebook and shared it all over the internet. After three days, we got a call from Our Lady of Mercy Ranguma and an ambulance picked him up from the village. Forence is a polite man. He is a man of few words, he doesn’t talk much or disturb anyone. I believed he could be healed," said Ducan, the family's neighbour.
The doctors have examined Forence and are scheduling two surgeries. The first surgery will be to debulk the penis and get rid of the mass and second surgery will be for reconstruction of the penis.
The doctors are hopeful that Forence will enjoy normal sex life in the future and may even have kids.
