Mahira Khan's upcoming film Verna is reportedly banned by the Censor Board in Pakistan. The reason? Well, it deals with rape and violence.
While everyone is condemning the ban, Mahira is getting support from a rather unexpected person. The person is non-other than Deepika Padukone, whose own film Padmavati is facing a severe backlash in India.
Mahira's new film Verna is facing a serious trouble after it failed to get a clearance from Pakistan’s Censor Board.
During a promotional event, Deepika gave her opinion on the film's ban.
“Yes, it’s sad that a small section of people don’t understand the power of cinema and what it can do to the world. It brings people together, it spreads love, it’s fascinating what cinema can do and it’s sad that a certain group of people choose to not recognize that,” she said.
Twitterati too came out in support of the Mahira and her film. Here are some of the tweets!
Maybe it was banned for not having enough item songs, vulgar dialogues, and other cheap titillation. Such a mature content seems to have offended a few... #Verna— LubNaa (@LubnaSabir1) November 14, 2017
So #Verna has been banned by the usual idiots on the Islamabad censor board who appar think topic (rape) should not be talked about. Was cleared by Sindh. Going into full board appeal today.— Hasan Zaidi (@hyzaidi) November 14, 2017
Ban on #Verna is imposed to make those powerful people happy who don't want masses to know what they do to maintain their hold on public— Khurram Zia Khan (@KhurramZiaKhan) November 14, 2017

What message are you sending when you ban a film that stood up against violence?
You let the powerful win again.#Verna
Violence against women in #ChainAyeNa and #PunjabNahiJaoungi is not objectionable according to the Censor Board in Pakistan but a movie that addresses rape culture and the problems victims face is banned in this country. Bravo! #Verna— Seerat Khan (@seeratkhan92) November 14, 2017
News channels report rape cases. Endless dramas have been about it , yet a movie on this issue is controversial? I don't get the logic at all. #VernaBan— Farwa Kanwal (@farwakanwal) November 14, 2017
The film directed by Shoaib Mansoor is a story of a young couple, whose lives changes after an unfortunate incident.
